One of the UK water sector’s ‘rising stars’ has called on the industry to find new ways to attract young talent in order to tackle urgent social and environmental challenges. That was the message of the latest Water Action Platform webinar from Isle – which sought to uncover the views of younger people coming into the water sector, delve into the challenges they face, as well as celebrate their achievements across the world. The event also featured interviews with Siddhartha Roy, an environmental engineer and research scientist who rose to prominence as a result of his work on the Flint water crisis, and Bob Taylor, chief executive of Portsmouth Water.

Isle´s Managing Director for the UK, Karyn Georges has been awarded the CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) Fellowship, CIWEM´s
highest membership grade. Alastair Chisholm, the Director of Policy of CIWEM said: “Around the world, people face new and challenging water and environmental problems every day. Achieving FCIWEM demonstrates you have made a significant contribution to addressing these issues and will enable you to continue to inspire others and help future generations.” On being admitted as a fellow to CIWEM, Karyn said: “I passionately believe in the mission of the Institute to build a global community of water and environmental professionals, working for the public benefit. Since I started working in the sector I’ve seen many positive changes in terms of gender diversity. Around 10% of CIWEM Fellows are women, with the proportion increasing every year. “You can’t be what you can’t see”, so I hope I can act as a bit of inspiration for other women to apply too.”

Blanca Antizar, European Director of Consultancy at Isle Utilities, won the Woman of the Year award at the 8th edition of the iAgua awards held at the Roca Gallery Madrid on 29 April 2022.
