After graduating from the Institut Supérieur d’Agriculture in France in environmental engineering, Maxime Remy went to the Netherlands for a Master’s in environmental technology with the University of Wageningen. Afterward, he completed a Ph.D. in cooperation with Wageningen University and Wetsus, still in the Netherlands, studying the impact of biology on fouling in membrane bioreactors.

He then worked for one year as a technologist for a Dutch company, Sustec, to develop thermal hydrolysis as a pre-treatment before municipal sludge digestion. He was then, for eight years, a Process specialist at Paques, responsible for various technologies treating (waste)water and biogas. He was in charge of designing and troubleshooting for full-scale installations worldwide while setting up the strategy for the products.

During the next four and a half years, still at Paques, he was sales manager for the French market, proposing solutions for customers in the food industry, paper industry, bioenergies and oil and gas.
