A global multinational consumer brand could implement Design-Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (DBOOM) wastewater treatment contracts at a substantial number of manufacturing sites globally.

An initial site considering this contract type was a hygiene products factory facing water shortages. The customer wanted to learn from others as this would be a long-term, potentially irreversible commitment. They sought Isle’s expertise to undertake a study intended to mitigate these commercial risks. 

The project objective was to learn from real case studies and provide answers. The company wanted to understand the typical contracting arrangements, and the biggest mistakes companies make entering into these agreements.

Isle’s team gained industry insights through targeted interviews with key stakeholders. We considered both an engineering and financial perspective, including contractors and industrial end-users. We provided strategic conclusions and actionable recommendations for the customer on DBOOM or comparable contracts. The study has proved a powerful tool across the company’s global operations as they make important decisions on improving their water conservation efforts.
